Lollipop, a 9 pound chocolate and white Shih Tzu, was bred to Ernie, a tiny 5 pound chocolate and white Toy Poodle. They have 1 Shih Poo puppy, a boy, born October 26, 2009. We expect this little guy to mature between 6 and 9 pounds.

Shih Poos are a wonderful choice for a family looking for a fun, but sweet and easy going dog. They are quite intelligent, due to the trainability and intelligence of the Poodle (rated #2 of all breeds.) The Shih Poo inherits the loveable and sweet nature of the Shih Tzu. This cross is great with kids partly because they are very forgiving, and love everyone, the neighborhood kids, dogs, strangers, and even the groomer and vet.

Shih Poos are non-shedding, as are both the Poodle and the Shih Tzu. Shi-Poos require regular grooming, as do all dogs with a non-shedding coat. Dogs that do not shed require hair-cuts, as the coat simply continues to grow longer, rather than growing to a certain length and then falling out. Professional grooming will help keep the coat in good condition, so that it can reject allergens from the yard (healthy, sound hair, is slick, so that the allergens from the environment fall off, rather than collecting on a harsh, rough, unhealthy coat.)
