Shirley, a cute little 5 pound Yorkshire Terrier, was bred to Scooter, a 6 pound Maltese. They have 2 Morkie (aka Yorkese, or Yorktese) puppies, both girls, born May 19, 2008. We expect these little Yorkese puppies to mature between 4 and 8 pounds.

Morkies, also known as Yorkese or Yorktese, are Maltese Yorkie mixes. This is a very tiny mix, in this case, maturing between 4 and 7 pounds. This size is best in families with children 9 years of age or older. Collisions between children and this size puppy/adult can end in disaster (broken bones, head injuries, or death of the puppy.) While their small size precludes them from being suited for families with young children, they do love to play with visiting youngsters and oldsters too. They are generally medium in activity level, though these girls are likelly to be a bit milder than medium in activity level, since Mom, Shirley, is such a sweetie.

Morkies are average in intelligence, really doing well with people that are unwilling to spoil them. These little ones can easily develop bad habits if spoiled, and really should be treated as any other larger dog, with the appropriate amount of physical discipline for their size. Dogs do not understand words, and they are most willing to modify behaviors with appropriate discipline and loving praise (and treats too!) You should not accept behaviors in a small dog that you would not tolerate in a larger dog.
