Wilamena, a tiny 5 pound Toy Poodle, was bred to Scooter, a 5 pound Maltese. They have 2 Maltepoo puppies, a boy and a girl, born August 28, 2009. We expect Wilamena's Multipoo puppies to mature between 5 and 8 pounds.
Maltipoos, Multipoos, and Maltepoos are Maltese Poodle mixes. Our Maltipoos are first generation Maltipoos, which means that one parent is a Maltese, and the other parent is Poodle. We like the first generation Multipoos because they have a lower risk of health problems (this characteristic is called Hybrid Vigor.) Maltipoos are an athletic, playful little dog. They enjoy being active with the family - playing fetch outside, going for long walks (you won't believe how much walking this little dog can handle), boating, etc. Anything they can do with the family, they will be happy to do, with a twinkle in their eye (they smile with their eyes!) Yet, at home, in the house, they have a gentle side too, and like to hang out on a lap reading the paper, watching TV, etc.
Maltipoos are non-shedding, a very suitable choice for people with allergy issues. The coat is soft and silky, fun to mess with. Short grooms should be considered if a member of the house has severe allergies, as the short coat will carry fewer allergens. Remember that the dog allergens are only a small part of allergy concerns. Most Maltipoos should be professionally trimmed every 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the style of groom chosen (longer grooms need to be done more frequently than shorter styled grooms.)
