Gypsy, a gold, silver, and white Shih Tzu, was bred to Harley, a seven pound Maltese male. They have 4 Mal-Shi puppies, 3 boys and a girl, born July 5, 2009. We expect these Maltese Shih Tzu mix puppies to mature between 7 and 10 pounds.
Mal-Shi are a neat little mix. They are non-shedding and allergy friendly, a near-perfect solution for families looking for a hypo-allergenic dog (no dog of any breed is completely hypo-allergenic.) This is a mix of Maltese and Shih Tzu, both straight coated dogs, so the Mal-Shih tend to be soft and silky coated, more straight than wavy. This is a beautiful dog when grown long, and a cute little dog when given a more manageable shorter trim (a great trim is about 1 1/2 to 2 long.)
Mal-Shi are fun loving like the Maltese, and yet very sweet and affectionate like the Shih Tzu. This combination is great with kids, great with other dogs, and kitties too. They tend to be less dominant, and can be a great choice for first time dog owners.
