Melody, a buff roan Cocker Spaniel, was bred to Billy Bob, a silver and white parti colored Miniature Poodle male. They have 4 F1 Cockapoo puppies, all boys, born March 1, 2008. Very pretty colors on these puppies. We expect these Cockapoo puppies to mature 12-16 pounds. Billy Bob is pictured to the right, Melody is pictured to the left. The puppies are pictured below.

Cockapoos are a fairly well known mix, having been bred intentionally for decades. Most Cockapoos from other breeders are multi-generation cockapoos. These are the result of breeding cockapoo to cockapoo for generation after generation. There are several downsides to this type of cockapoo. Only the first generation (pure poodle bred to pure cocker) benefits from the reduction in health problems, a very real phenomenon due to hybrid vigor. Also, most multi-generation Cockapoos look rather poodley. Most of our Cockapoos are F1's, the result of breeding a purebred Cocker Spaniel to a purebred Poodle. We actually prefer the look and temperament of the F1's over the multi-gen Cockapoos. They truly resemble both breeds.

Cockapoos are great family dogs - they're a size that's very suitable for older children and younger children as well. They're very athletic, capable of going for long walks, and indeed capable of hunting small fowl like grouse. The retrieving instinct is very strong, due to the hunting abilities of the cocker and the poodle too. Our cockapoos are generally fairly mild mannered, definitely not hyper or yappy. Coats are very suitable for folks with all but the worst allergies. If serious allergies are present, we can suggest a different mix.
